  • Why is the process needed: The sale or purchase of a motor vehicle is executed to transfer ownership of the motor vehicle from one person to another. This process is undertaken through the National Transport and Safety Authority’s online Platform.

The benefit of the above process is that the Seller will receive payments in respect to the purchase price for the motor vehicle/motor bike and on the other hand, the Buyer will be officially registered as the owner of the motor vehicle/motor bike in question

  • Risk/what happens if the process is not undertaken: Lack of completing the sale and purchase of a motor vehicle has many repercussions including but not limited to there is lack of documentation to prove that one is indeed the legal owner of the motor vehicle/motorbike.

Set out below is a summary of the requirements, the procedure and the time frame for the sale and purchase of a motor vehicle/motor bike.


Steps

  1. Create a TIMS Account
  2. Prepare Agreement for Sale
  3. Accept ownership of the Transfer of your Motor Vehicle from the Seller to you through your TIMS Account

  • Original Logbook
  • Copies of the Identity Card and PI.N. Certificate of the Buyer and Seller
